Involvement in Shoalhaven community service:
The club responds to requests from many local organisations in the Shoalhaven and surrounding areas.
In the 2008-2009 Rotary Year the club made donations of over $15,500. This includes $3700 to local Shoalhaven organisations.
Requests for support are received throughout the year. Unfortunately all of these cannot be met, but the Board will try where possible, and where the request fits into the Club's objectives for the year.
Involvement in local and overseas community service:
Rotary is an International organisation, and the South Nowra club responds to many of the community service programs, particularly in the areas of Health, Hunger and Humanity to improve the lot of many of the world’s peoples. These programs include:
Polio Plus: This has been Rotary International's major project since 1985. There are amazing stories of ceaeefires in war torn regions to enable millions of children to be immunised. To dat Polio is almost eradicated in the world. A truely wonderful initiative. In 209, Th Bill and Melinda Gates Foundatio has contributed $US350 million and Rotary clubs are combining to match this with $US200. The taget is being reached - the money and the eradication of Polio. Contact the club to find about how you can donate.
Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS): There are a number of programs supported by clubs in the District. There is District information as well as the RAWCS website where more information is available.
Rotary Against Malaria (RAM) This is a RAWCS project. Malaria is one of the biggest killers in the world today, attacking some of our most vulnerable communities and contributing significantly to the untold suffering and sustained poverty of more than forty per cent (40%) of the world’s population.
