Rotary is an International organisation, and the South Nowra club responds to many of the international programs. These may be part of The Rotary Foundation (TRF). The programs include:
Polio Plus: This has been Rotary International's major project since 1985. Have a look at more information and a video. There are amazing stories of cease fires in war torn regions to enable millions of children to be immunised. To date Polio is almost eradicated in the world. A truely wonderful initiative. In 2009, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has contributed $US350 million and Rotary clubs are combining to match this with $US200. The taget is being reached - the money and the eradication of Polio. Contact the club to find about how you can donate.
Group Study Exchange (GSE): GSE offers a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills, work on team building, and increase self-confidence. The program is designed to have an invaluable impact on the career of a young professional in the increasingly global workplace by creating networking opportunities and lifelong friendships.
Individuals who participate in this rewarding, once-in-a-lifetime experience will return home with a broadened cultural perspective and new understanding of a nation’s history, language, commerce, and government.
Paul Harris Awards: This represents a donation of $US 1000 to The Rotary Foundation where the donations are used for the many programs of TRF. Paul Harris started Rotary in 1905.
Ambassadorial Scholarships: The purpose of the Ambassadorial Scholarships program is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries and geographical areas. While abroad, scholars serve as goodwill ambassadors to the host country and give presentations about their homelands to Rotary clubs and other groups. Upon returning home, scholars share with Rotarians and others the experiences that led to a greater understanding of their host country. Find out about applications for 2011-2012.
Peace Fellowships: Fellows are chosen from countries and cultures around the globe based on their ability to have a significant, positive impact on world peace and conflict resolution during their careers.
Friendship Exchanges: The Rotary Friendship Exchange program gives Rotarians and their families the opportunity to experience other cultures firsthand, by participating in reciprocal visits with Rotarians from other countries and their families. Introduced in 1984, this program aims to advance international understanding among Rotarians. It provides Rotarians with the opportunity to form personal contacts and make long-lasting friendshipswhile exploring different areas of the world.
